BAFTA-winning drama Code of Silence has officially begun filming its second series, with dailyedit.co.uk understanding that the hit thriller will make its highly anticipated return to screens in May 2027.

Lead Return: Rose Ayling-Ellis MBE reprises her acclaimed role as forensic lip-reader Alison Brooks, alongside executive producing the series.
Returning & New Cast: Andrew Buchan, John Bishop, and Nathan Armarkwei Laryea return, joining high-profile new additions Jonah Hauer-King, Jo Joyner, and Emily Head.
The New Plot: Set two years later, Alison is drawn into a high-stakes police surveillance operation investigating a dangerous money-laundering syndicate.
Streaming Success: The announcement follows a blockbuster debut season that consolidated to 7.5 million viewers for its opening episode and generated over 20 million streams.
Cameras are officially rolling on the second installment of the hit ITV and BritBox drama Code of Silence, produced by Mammoth Screen. Following a triumphant first outing that bagged a BAFTA and drew over 20 million streams on ITVX, the six-part thriller returns with creator Catherine Moulton at the helm to explore crime, communication, and representation through its signature lens.
Series two jumps forward two years. Having completed her official police forensic lip-reading training, Alison Brooks (Rose Ayling-Ellis) is called in to assist DI James Marsh (Andrew Buchan) and his team on a complex surveillance operation. The investigation focuses on Ruby Dowling (played by newcomer Emily Head), a woman caught up in a sophisticated money-laundering network after illicit cash is discovered hidden in her car.
When Ruby becomes the victim of a brutal attack while out on bail, Alison’s specialized lip-reading skills become pivotal in decoding crucial CCTV footage. However, as hidden secrets surface, Alison finds her loyalties tested and her personal safety directly threatened as dangerous criminals close in.
Returning cast members alongside Ayling-Ellis and Buchan include John Bishop, Nathan Armarkwei Laryea, and Fifi Garfield. Joining the ensemble for the new run are Jonah Hauer-King (The Tattooist of Auschwitz), Jo Joyner (Ackley Bridge), Sophie McShera (Downton Abbey), John Hollingworth, Sasha Desouza-Willock, and Emily Head (The Inbetweeners).
Expressing her excitement about returning to the set, Rose Ayling-Ellis commented:

Series creator Catherine Moulton echoed the enthusiasm for Alison’s evolving role within the police force, commenting:

Off-screen, the production continues its celebrated commitment to authentic representation, employing a diverse cast and crew that includes talent from the Deaf, disabled, and neurodiverse communities.
Behind the camera, Joseph Shrubb returns as producer, with Meenu Gaur directing episodes one to three and Nirpal Bhogal directing episodes four to six. The writing team includes Genevieve Barr, Melissa Bubnic, Kevin Rundle, and Nicola Wilson working alongside Moulton.
With production now underway, fans can look forward to the return of one of Britain’s most celebrated recent thrillers when Series 2 lands in spring 2027.
