Piers Morgan is expanding his digital franchise with Football Uncensored, a weekly sports debate series debuting this Monday on YouTube.
Powerhouse Co-Host: Broadcaster and former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan joins Morgan to lead the weekly coverage.
Proven Streaming Success: The greenlight follows World Cup Uncensored, which amassed 60 million streams across social media platforms over 12 summer episodes.
TV Broadcast Potential: UK terrestrial network Channel 5 is reportedly considering picking up the series, continuing its tradition of airing Morgan’s digital hits.
Broadcaster Piers Morgan is capitalizing on the massive digital footprint of his summer sports coverage by officially making the venture a permanent weekly series. The veteran British journalist is launching Football Uncensored, adding a flagship sports debate format to his rapidly expanding YouTube network alongside Piers Morgan Uncensored and The Royals Uncensored.
Morgan will co-host the project alongside outspoken TalkSport analyst and former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan. The duo previously teamed up with former Chelsea and England star John Terry for a 12-episode run during World Cup Uncensored. Producers report the tournament special generated over 60 million total streams across social media channels, laying the groundwork for a full-time series.
The debut episode is scheduled to air this coming Monday. The show may also make the jump to traditional television, as Channel 5 in the UK—which has previously acquired broadcast rights for Morgan’s digital offerings—is reportedly eyeing the new show for linear transmission.
Morgan said: “I can’t wait to kick off. Simon is a great sparring partner and we both love an on-air tear-up, so watch out for fireworks. But we are also passionate about football and we want everyone who shares that passion to be part of the Uncensored experience. Simply put, we aim to make Football Uncensored the most followed and most talked-about football debate show on the planet.
“The response over the summer to our World Cup Uncensored show was phenomenal, with nearly a million views of our last episode, dwarfing any other online show audience during the tournament. We’ll carry on that momentum.”
Jordan added: “It strikes me in sports broadcasting that a lot of the conversations lack clarity, insight or courage. They are formulaic, one-dimensional and not very bold… I don’t suffer from those afflictions and my ethos of discuss, debate and resolve, teamed with my deep, real-world understanding of the business of sport, provides a real opportunity for this project of ours to dominate the sport’s media landscape.”
